How Dr. Sunde Ensures Your Safety
Patient safety is Dr. Sunde’s highest priority. In addition to nearly 20 years of experience practicing plastic surgery, Dr. Sunde has achieved the highest level possible in terms of certification and accreditation.
Dr. Sunde is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery
To become board certified, a plastic surgeon must have at least 5 years of surgical training, including 2 full years of training exclusively in plastic surgery. He or she must also pass rigorous board examinations.
Your surgery will take place in a fully accredited facility
Dr. Sunde performs every procedure in a fully accredited surgery center. Each patient’s care team includes qualified operating room nurses and a board certified MD anesthesiologist, and the operating room is equipped to handle any medical emergency, should one arise during surgery. To maintain accreditation, these facilities are audited regularly, and may only allow surgeons to operate who have hospital privileges to perform that specific procedure. Dr. Sunde operates at the following facilities:
- Community Hospital of Monterey Peninsula
- Monterey Peninsula Surgical Center
- Natividad Medical Center
Your anesthesia is provided by a board certified MD anesthesiologist
You will be in the hands of a qualified physician who solely practices anesthesia and has achieved the highest level of training and experience in this medical specialty.
What are the Risks of Plastic Surgery?
It’s important to remember that plastic surgery, whether cosmetic or reconstructive, is still surgery. All surgery carries certain risks. Your choice to have plastic surgery is personal, and as part of your decision to have a procedure, you should be aware of the possible risks.
Health-related risks include bleeding, excessive swelling, infection, poor healing of your incisions, loss of sensation, and anesthesia risks. Fortunately, these risks can be minimized by choosing a qualified plastic surgeon, communicating openly with your surgeon, and following his or her pre- and post-operative instructions.
Results-related risks include unfavorable scarring, results that underwhelm you, and the effects of aging and weight changes on your results. Again, you can minimize these risks by choosing a skilled, experienced surgeon who will only perform a procedure that is in your best interest and going into surgery with clear, realistic expectations.
Excellent Communication is Key to a Safe Experience
You need to find a surgeon with whom you feel comfortable sharing your concerns and asking questions. This open communication between surgeon and patient is essential to ensure your safety and your results. Dr. Sunde and every member of our staff will make sure you are well-informed about your care, from the moment you schedule your consultation to your final post-operative visit, so you know exactly what to expect each step of the way.
